The Age Hub is a friendly, self-contained environment able to travel to many schools using the same equipment and staff to maximize resources. The project is targeted at children aged 12-13, addressing ageism issues before preconceptions become ingrained. Older people can remember being young, but active teenagers have never been handicapped by age.

The teenagers board the bus and put on ageing suits (which mimic physiological symptoms of ageing), before completing simple activities. They experience first hand what it might feel like to be 80 years old, and leave with increased empathy, and awareness of older people.

If young people have greater empathy, respect, understanding and awareness of older people, then greater social cohesion between generations will naturally begin to occur.

This project was entered for the RSA Student Design Awards 2011/12.

Cakebar aims to give customers an alternative to mass produced supermarket cakes.

As part of the concession, there is an area where (under supervision from trained staff), children can decorate their own cakes and create personalised gifts. During off-peak hours, staff can also use this area to decorate cakes for retail.

Re:store promotes high quality eco-products at the forefront of design; confident and stylish, rather than merely environmentally sympathetic. The store specialises in design-led eco-fashion, as well as ethical homeware, stationery and organic skincare made using natural ingredients.

In store, at the re:fresh bar, customers can have a skin consultation and, with guidance and a cup of lemon and honey tea, blend ingredients to make personalised organic cosmetics. People know exactly what’s in the skincare products they create, and develop a connection with the brand.

The aim is to encourage greener lifestyles by offering discounts to people who bring in clothes for recycling, and to those who use the RE:STORE iPhone app to track how much they use their bike or walk, rather than driving.
